Six teenage school children and their teacher died on Tuesday, doing a canyoning and kayaking and hiking trip that hundreds, if not thousands of school children had done before them, safely. I didn’t cry until I read this story today, and realised that they were just metres from safety. Those lovely young lives, cut short, just like that.
And on a more personal note, a friend lost her beloved father yesterday. He was nearing his three score years and ten, but he should still have been here for many years to come, rejoicing in his children and grandchildren.
So I have stared into the abyss, and then hugged my beautiful girls, and tucked them into bed, and told them I love them. It’s all I can do.
